Microstructure

Microstructure

Microstructure is the structure of a prepared surface of material above 25x magnification.

This test is conducted to determine the capabilities of the material examined. An optical microscope is used to view traces of the microstructure. Many times, the microstructure of a material can be the deciding factor in which industry or application the material is used. This information can be relayed to the client, purchasing agent, or to the end users.

RESULTS/PROPERTIES THAT CAN BE DETECTED WITH MICROSTRURE EXAMINATION

  • This test method is used to detect the material’s ductility, strength, toughness, hardness, corrosion resistance and several other distinct differences between materials.

TYPES OF MATERIAL THAT CAN BE TESTED WITH MICROSTRURE EXAMINATION

  • Microstructures can be examined on various metals and alloys.
